How do Free Apps and Games Make Money?

You must have used free apps and games that are available on the Play Store or App Store. But do you ever wonder how these make money? Well, wonder no more! We have the answer for you with various examples. SO, Let's Get Started.

There are actually a few ways of making money around free apps and games. The first and the most common one is In-App Purchases. Let's take PlayerUnknown BattleGround (PUBG). The game is 100% free to play. But if you want to get new outfits, new gun skins or any kind of upgrades, you must pay in app currency. And  that In-App currency is hard to make. So we must pay for certain in-app currency. This makes this process a bit separated, making it more attractive for users to pay. They use Credit Card/Debit Card or something similar but never cash as people do not like cash from their hands going away. This reduces the attractiveness of the purchase as users feel like something is being taken from them.

Another Method of Making Money is by using Ads. Ads are just a way of promoting themselves. When you see an Ad on an app or game, it is the company promoting and the developer earning. Also, sometimes Ads are used as a medium for the user to earn In-App currency and Rewards, by which the user feels like he is getting rewarded. This is why bigger games generally don't need ads to pop up to earn money as a lot of users must be paying for the In-App Purchases.

Some games even try to annoy the user to make purchases. For Example Clash of Clans have timers for upgrades to complete. A user trying to complete the Upgrade quickly must use Gems. Now if the player is all out of gems, he/she must pay for the gems. These games really annoy the player, as the most important building in this game, the town hall, takes weeks to upgrade. And by weeks, I mean real life Weeks. And the security of these games are just so tight that you can't even try to bypass their payment procedure using simple methods like using the infamous "Lucky Patcher".

Well, until now you must have had some understanding on how things work and free games make billions of dollars. So, check out our other blogs if you enjoyed this one. See you soon.
